One of many parts for machine guns: produced months ahead of contract schedule, General Motors is turning out complete machine guns on defense orders for such guns totaling sixty-one million dollars. Above, in a converted Brown-Lipe-Chapin plant of the Guide Lamp Division at Syracuse, New York, George Essner examines a bolt of one of the thirty caliber guns. In this plant and in a new plant of the Frigidaire Division at Dayton, Ohio, production will get underway shortly. The two General Motors plants ready turning out complete guns are the new five-acre plant of the Saginaw Steering Division at Saginaw at Saginaw, Michigan and converted plant of the AC Spark Plug Division at Flint, Michigan. All four plants will soon be delivering quantities of machine guns well ahead of the first delivery date anticipated at the time the government contract was signed. Two sizes of machine guns are being produced, thirty caliber and fifty caliber air cooled Brownings [between 1940 and 1946]
