ISO 639-3: Codes for the Representation of Names of Languages - Part 3: Alpha-3 code for comprehensive coverage of languages
- ISO 639-3 is part of the ISO 639 language code family. Like ISO 639-2, it provides three-character identifiers for identifying languages. Whereas ISO 639-2 covers a few hundred languages, ISO 639-3 provides a comprehensive code set for all known languages, both living and historical. It provides identifiers for over 7,500 distinct languages. When the same identifier occurs in both 639-2 and 639-3 it always has the same meaning.
