Sayers spent a large part of her career at the New York Public Library, first as assistant in the children's room, 1918-23 and later as superintendent of work with children, 1941-52. Thereafter she committed eleven years to lecturing on children's literature at the University of California, Los Angeles, from which she retired to write in 1965.)
