Graduated with a BA in Spanish and education, then graduated from University of Texas at Austin in 1931 with his MA, and from University of California at Berkeley with his PhD in 1934. Taught at the University of New Mexico 1938-1940, then at UT Austin 1940 until his death in 1972 in Austin.)
