found: Walker, R.J. The English legal system, 1976:p.170-171 (The Courts Act 1971 abolished all courts of assize and quarter sessions [which had local jurisdictions] and established in their place a single court to be known as the Crown Court. The Act further abolished the Crown Courts of Liverpool and Manchester and the Central Criminal Court, though the latter has been retained in name since it is expressly provided that when the Crown Court sits in London it shall be known as the Central Criminal Court. The essential feature of the Crown Court is that its jurisdiction is in no sense local: its business may be conducted at any place in England or Wales; sittings at any place may be continuous or intermittent or occasional; judges may sit simultaneously to take any number of different cases in the same or in different places) p.168 (Courts Act came into operation 1st Jan. 1972)
