found: Oxford DNB online, 2 July 2014(Moses Harris, Moses, entomologist and artist, was born in Churchyard Alley, Holborn, London, on 15 April 1730; from an early age showed great enthusiasm for entomology; in 1744 Harris was apprenticed to the geographer Charles Price; however, he did not complete his apprenticeship and with his wife travelled to Halifax, Nova Scotia; he arrived in June 1749 and was soon drawing the pictures of Halifax plants that were later reproduced in the Gentleman's Magazine ; he may also have been active in drawing plans of the proposed new settlement and its environs - his name appears as that of the surveyor of "A view of Halifax drawn from ye topmasthead" dated October 1749; there is no evidence that Harris stayed long in Canada, and it is likely he remained there less than a year before returning to London to pursue his interests in natural history and art; he was a clever practical entomologist as well as an accurate artist, who drew, engraved, and coloured all his own works; he was also a miniature painter of some renown; he died ca. 1788)
