He received his Honours B.A. in English and psychology from the University of Western Ontario in 1984. He received an M.A. and Ph.D. from McMaster University, where he held a S.S.H.R.C. doctoral fellowship. Since 1991 he has taught English literature at the University College of the Cariboo in Kamloops, British Columbia. In addition to contributing to volumes of the Dictionary of Literary Biography, Johnson is the editor of Late-Victorian and Edwardian British Novelists, First Series (1995) and Second Series (forthcoming), and British Novelists Between the Wars (forthcoming))
