In 1876, John Harvey Kellogg became superintendent and his brother W.K. Kellogg worked as the bookkeeper. In 1878 a new structure was built on the site but it burned down in 1902. The following year it was rebuilt, enlarged and renamed The Battle Creek Sanitarium ... the San was put into receivership in 1933 and the US Army bought it in 1942 when they needed a hospital ... was converted into the Percy Jones Hospital for soldiers wounded in WWII and the Korean War .. in 1954 the US General Services Administration took it over as the Battle Creek Federal Center and began housing federal agencies and activities ; in 2003 the building was dedicated the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center named for Philip Hart, Bob Dole and Daniel Inouye; the San was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976)
