His articles and essays have appeared in the New York Times Book Review, the Guardian, the Indian Express, the Times Literary Supplement, the Financial Times, Outlook, and numerous other periodicals. He is the editor of Delhi Noir, a critically-acclaimed anthology of original fiction. Joyce Carol Oates selected his short story "A Bag for Nicholas" for her New Jersey Noir anthology. Hirsh is on the advisory board of Wasafiri, a London-based magazine of international writing. He has spoken at the Kennedy Center, London's National Portrait Gallery, and the 92nd Street Y.
