found: Jean-Louis Demarne (approximately 1752-1829) was a French landscape and genre painter. Born in Brussels, he moved to Paris at age 12, where he studied painting with Gabriel Briard. He participated in the French academic scene, entering the Prix de Rome in 1772 and 1774 (without winning), becoming an associate of the Académie Royale in 1783, and receiving the Légion d'honneur at the Salon of 1828. Demarne was a successful commercial artist who was heavily collected, particularly known for his village fair and road scenes.
