Ohio School Library at Cincinnati

found: Free & public, 2003:pages 15-18 (the Ohio School Library was founded due to the Ohio Common Schools Act passing on March 14, 1853; after receiving its first resources from the State Commissioner of Common Schools in 1854 it was housed in the original building of the Ohio Mechanics Institute that was located at the corner of 6th and Vine Streets where it was open to all; it held in its collection titles that were of interest to the general public; on March 18, 1867 a new law was passed authorizing first and second class Ohio cities to levy an additional public library tax which led to the institution being named the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County)
