found: PPPrHi files(Gale College was founded in 1859 as Galesville University by the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1877 it was transferred to the Presbyterian Church; for a few years (1880-1883) it served as a military academy. In 1901 the school was taken over by the Norwegian Lutheran Synod of Wisconsin and the name changed to Gale College. It was closed in 1939)
