Served in the USSR Air Force (VS SSSR) from 1962 where he became a Major General (General-maĭor). Since Oct. 1991 he has been President of the Chechen Republic (Prezident ChR) and commander-in-chief of the Chechen military forces. He is also chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Chechen Republic (Kabinet Ministrov ChR))
